[Main Achievements of the Ministerial and Leaders' Meetings

  1. Third APEC Ministerial Meeting
    1. The People's Republic of China, Hong kong, and Chinese Taipei became Participating Economies.
    2. Adopted a declaration delineating APEC's basic philosophy and objectives.
  2. Fourth APEC Ministerial Meeting
    1. Established the APEC Secretariat (January 1993, Singapore).
    2. Reached agreement on the budget for 1993 ($2 million).
  3. Fifth APEC Ministerial Meeting Adopted the "Declaration on Trade and Investment Framework" establishing the Committee on Trade and Investment.
  4. APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (Blake Island, Seattle, 1993) Adopted the "APEC Leaders' Economic Vision Statement", a collection of the visionary ideas of the leaders of this region.
  5. APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (Bogor, Jakarta, 1994) Reached agreement on strengthening economic cooperation within the region for the purpose of strengthening the open multilateral trading system, enhancing trade and investment liberalization in the Asia-Pacific region and indensifying Asia- Pacific development cooperation. Declared commitment to achieve free and open trade and investment by specific time (the Bogor Declaration).
